Area softball teams have had all season to sweat, learn and pull together. Today, the majority of teams in the area will have the opportunity to find out if the hard work paid off.

The state playoffs for fastpitch softball kicks off today with district trophies on the line. The premise is simple: Win and play another week. Lose, and it's time to roll out the basketballs.

Teams in Class 3A to Class B throughout the state will suit up with the seasons and — in some individual cases — careers on the line. The format is best of three.

Turner, ranked No. 2 in Class B, will be at home to host Ryan. The Falcons open up districts at 2 p.m., with a second game to follow. A third game, if necessary, will be at 2 p.m. Friday.

Class 3A teams Davis and Sulphur will automatically advance into regional play with district byes.

In an area matchup, neighbors Wilson and Healdton meet in Bulldog country for a district title. The first game is at 1 p.m., with a second and, if necessary, a third game to be played the same day. Tishomingo will travel to Kingston with the same format of three games in one day. The first game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

Marietta will be on the road to face off against Comanche, with the first pitch at 1 p.m., and the second game immediately afterward. Should a third game be needed, Marietta will return to Comanche for a 1 p.m. game Friday.

Ringling will also be on the road and will take on Elmore City-Pernell. All three games are scheduled for Thursday, with the first to start at 4 p.m.
