  • Plainview harriers enjoy strong showing in Stilllwater

  • Competing in a stacked field of upper-echelon 4A and 5A talent, the Plainview cross country teams more than held their own in the Cowboy Jamboree. The girls team finished third with 68 points in a field of 21 teams, trailing only Canyon Randall in Texas and Awty International, competing in inclement weather. The boy's team was 12th in a field of 28 teams.
    In girl's competition, the Indians had seven runners finish in the top 51. Madi Gray led the way with a seventh place finish in a time of 12:12. Darian Barnes was 10th, followed by Kyleigh Morris, who was 12th. The pair posted times of 12:24 and 12:32. Jessica Woods was 18th with a time of 12:50.
    Bailey Sutherlin was crossed the line in 13:09 to finish 28th, while Hannah Ross came in 49th with a time of 13:38 and Hope Salzman finished in 13:40 to place 51st.
    In boy's competition, Jackson Daube led Plainview, taking 29th in a time of 18:00. Josh Jones was 49th with a time of 18:25 and Josh Hicks was 84th in a time of 19:08. Elijah McPhail trailed Hicks narrowly, finishing 87th in 19:10. Austin Bell was 100th finishing in 19:20, Yaseen Surbaji was 104th with a time of 19:25 and McKenna Ray was right behind, turning in a time of 20:05.
    In junior varsity competition, Payton Little was 15th in a time of 13:40 and Sunny Davenport was 25th with a time of 13:51 for the girls. Others competing in girls junior varsity: Alex Mitchell, 13:52; Payton Brewster, 14:11; Georgia Martel, 14:13; Blane Barnes, 14:17; Andrea Hutchings, 14:26; Katie Bilsburg, 14:50; Tonya Hughes, 15:07 and Allie Harris, 15:56.
    Boys junior varsity results were: Jalen Shriver, 20:01; Taylor Lloyd, 20:37; Trey Hanson, 22:07; Grant Rhynes, 22:09; Thomas Rhynes, 23:01 and Cade Harkins, 26:15.
    The Plainview team is back in action Tuesday when it travels to a meet at Velma. On Saturday, the Indians will compete in the pre-state meet, which will take place in Edmond. The meet will be one of four final warm-ups leading to state.
