A town hall meeting has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Love County Fair Barn to discuss numerous earthquakes which have occurred recently within central Love County.
Personnel from the Oklahoma Geological Survey have been on-site installing monitoring equipment to collect data and determine the cause of the tremors. To date, there has been no definitive conclusion.
Sen. Frank Simpson (R-Ardmore) and Rep. Tommy Hardin (R-Madill) scheduled the meeting.
"This meeting will allow citizens to get answers to their questions about these recent occurrences," Simpson said. "As we all know, there are many rumors circulating and, hopefully, the experts can offer facts to put those rumors to rest."
Similar situations have occurred in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and, most recently, in Timpson, Texas. Timpson is located in East Texas in the Haynesville shale formation, a hotbed of activity for natural gas exploration and extraction.
"This will be an important meeting, as representatives from the Oklahoma Geological Survey and the Corporation Commission will be on hand to provide information and answer questions," Hardin said. "I want to strongly encourage local citizens to attend this meeting."
