  • Dickson improved to 5-0 on the season in a game that was not for the faint of heart.
Chris Bamberg scored from 23 yards out and ran in a conversion to lift the Comets to a 20-13 win over Pauls Valley. A prior drive came up short but Dickson recovered a fumble and scored the last touchdown to pull out the win and win their first five games of the season for the first time in school history.
"It was quite a crazy night," Dickson coach Jeremy Reed said. "We have never been 5-0 in the history of the school and it was a big night. It is the hardest I have had a group of kids fight. They came from behind twice, there is absolutely no quit in these kids."
Pauls Valley (0-5,0-2) took a first quarter lead on a Jace Elkins run and a Manny Colmenares extra point. Bamberg found Bryar Byrne on a 45-yard scoring strike in the second quarter, which pulled Dickson within one after a missed extra point attempt.
Bamberg gave Dickson a 12-7 lead in the third quarter on a 31-yard run. The Panthers roared back to take a 13-12 lead when Carter Tate hit Tanner Campbell on a 9-yard pass. Pauls Valley would hold the lead until Dickson's fourth quarter heroics.
"I think it was a very special moment for Dickson," Reid said. "It has been a rough week and it was great for the community. The biggest thing we are going to take away from this is if you play absolutely as hard as you can, good things can happen."
The Comets outgained Pauls Valley 334-230 in total offense. Bamberg led the Comets with 118 yards rushing. Chanler Towler had 59 yards on four rushes and Brandon Winblood gained 40 yards on nine carries.
The Comets will look to improve to 6-0 Friday night when they host Madill.
