Ardmore police are searching for a local man accused of "taking a shot" at his nephew during an argument Friday night at a northwest side residence.

Sgt. Brice Woolly, APD Patrol Division, said Saturday afternoon the search for 50-year-old Mario Cruz began shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday after Christopher Cruz, 22, reported being injured when his uncle fired a gun at him.

"[The nephew] said he and his uncle were in a verbal altercation in the unit block of 5th Avenue NW when his uncle pulled a gun and fired one round at him. The bullet grazed his knee and he refused medical treatment at the scene," Woolly said, adding preliminary reports indicate the younger Cruz "declined" to disclose what the argument was about. "All he would say was it had happened earlier. He wouldn't say what it was about or why he had waited before reporting it."

Is there another side to the story? That's what investigators are trying to determine. But locating the elder Cruz has been unsuccessful.

Cruz has a criminal history which includes a previous conviction of illegal possession of a firearm. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 7inches tall, 188 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts is encouraged to contact police headquarters at (580) 223-1212.
