Essie Ola Lawson, 92, went to be with the Lord, October 4, 2013. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with her son, the Reverend Ricky McGee to officiate. Interment will follow at Jehovah Cemetery in Milo, Okla.
Essie Lawson, the oldest of six children, was born February 2, 1921, to the late Willie Jackson and Roberta Stevenson in Newport, Okla. She attended school at St. John Baptist Church, also in Newport. Mother accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She met and married Eddie Lee McGee on February 17, 1945, in Gainesville, Texas. With this union nine children were raised, five from the marriage. After their marriage, Eddie Lee and Essie joined Jehovah Baptist Church, where mother was very involved in her service to the Lord. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and a true missionary, working with the missionary society until health failed her. This wonderful union with Eddie Lee lasted until his death in August of 1971.
After the passing of daddy, mother met and married the Reverend Paul Henderson in 1973. With this union, the Rev. Henderson brought seven children that extended her family. This union lasted until his passing in 1983. She later met and married the Reverend Frank Lawson Sr. in May of 1998. With this union, her family was again extended by six children. They remained married until she gained her wings on Friday, October 4, 2013.
Mother loved children and decided to be a foster grandmother in the Foster Grand Parents Program and also worked as a teacher's aide at the Early Childhood Center. She enjoyed this service to children for a number of years. She also worked domestically for many years.
Mother was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Bobbie McGee, three sisters, Lizzie Anderson, Rena May Murphy, Lylese Stevenson; one brother, Willie Louis Hope; two daughters-in-law, Erriah Godwin and Ortha Dean Anderson; and 11 grandkids.
Our loving mother leaves to forever cherish her memories, her husband, the Rev. Frank Lawson Sr.; nine children, Billy (Porscha) Godwin, Tatums, Okla., Inez Roberts, Charles (Evelyn) Shannon, Wanda (Leslie) Green, all of Oklahoma City, Gilbert Anderson of Milo, Kenneth (Pearlie Ann) McGee, Lloyd (Kathy) McGee and Ricky McGee, all of Ardmore, and June (Rankin) Banks of Grand Prairie, Texas; one sister, Esterine Scott; 40 grandchildren; 141 great-grandchildren; 69 great-great grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom she also loved dearly.
