  • Lawmaker Sees Problem with Food Vendors Contracted with Prisons

  • State Rep. Bobby Cleveland said Thursday that he is being told that vendors contracting with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections are not properly honoring their contracts.

“From the information I have received, it appears that these vendors are not abiding by a clause in the contract that pertains to how often they change the prices of the food items that they are providing,” said Cleveland, R-Slaughterville. “It makes my blood boil to think that they might be taking advantage of the corrections system, as I know how tight the agency’s budget has become lately.”

Cleveland said the information he received highlights food price discrepancies between different prisons in the system and between different orders.

“I like to keep a close eye on what is going on in the corrections system and I wanted to bring some attention to this problem and possibly get someone to investigate this matter further,” Cleveland said.
