A 9-year-old Ardmore boy called 911 Wednesday afternoon, telling emergency dispatchers his father had told him to leave his home and not come back.

Officers were dispatched about 3:35 p.m. to the 1100 block of S. Commerce Street where they found the child, who had gone to a local store to call for help.

"He had presence of mind to find a place to call 911," said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt Ardmore Police Department public information officer.

Department of Human Services child welfare workers were called into the case. Police reports indicate the boy was turned over to a "non-custodial" parent pending further investigation.

The father? Hunnicutt said investigators had turned over their reports to the district attorney's office pending child neglect charges.
