Lottery officials are warning Oklahomans of a scam seeking to trick people into believing they've won a lump sum of money. The scam is primarily focused around the Mega Millions game.
Most of the targeted victims are believed to live in the 876 area code. The caller says the person answering the phone has won a large sum of money and/or additional prizes such as a car or a trip. The person is asked to pay taxes on the prize in up-front payments.
Anyone who receives a call that could be a potential scam is asked to contact the attorney general's office at (405) 521-3921 or the Federal Trade Commission at (877) 382-4357.
