  • OU Volleyball Takes Win Streak to K-State

  • The Sooners take a four-match winning streak on the road as they visit Kansas State for a 7:00 pm contest on Wednesday night. The match marks the beginning of the second half of the Big 12 slate.
     
    1. About the Sooners
    Oklahoma is 18-4 on the year and 6-2 in the Big 12 following Saturday’s sweep over West Virginia. Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin leads the way for the Sooner attack with 3.78 kills per set and a league-leading .452 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst is second on the team in both categories at 3.01 and .239. Sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the team with 3.95 digs per set, while senior outside hitter Keila Rodriguez has contributed on both sides of the ball with 3.26 digs and 2.28 kills per set.
     
    2. Inside the Poll
    Following a 2-0 week, Oklahoma is ranked No. 25 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches’ Association poll. The Sooners were last ranked on November 7, 2011 at No. 25. Previously, Oklahoma sat one spot away from the Top-25 on September 2 and October 7.
     
    3. Player of the Week
    Sallie McLaurin earned her league-leading fourth Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award on October 28. She is one of just three players to garner four or more such awards in a single season in Big 12 history. For her career, McLaurin ranks fifth all-time with 10 weekly awards. She hit .457 and averaged 4.62 kills per set in a 2-0 week.
     
    4. Last Time vs. K-State
    On October 12, Ward registered the first double-double of her career in a 15-kill, 11-dig effort as she hit .289 to help lead the Sooners over the Wildcats, 3-1, at home. McLaurin tied for the team-lead in kills at 15 and hit a match-high .414. Pelger led all players with 17 kills and Gina Madoniarecorded a match-high 21 digs. Doyle set a personal-best in assists with 53 for the Sooners.
     
    5. Rodriguez Does it All
    An outside hitter by trade, Rodriguez is averaging 2.28 kills per set, good enough for third on the team. She has played in every set this season and has contributed 38 blocks, 22 assists and 17 service ace. Defensively, Rodriguez is second on the team with 3.26 digs per set. She ranks 10th in the Big 12, making her the highest ranked player in the league that it not a libero.
     
    6. Tackling the Top 10
    In Oklahoma’s sweep over Baylor on October 19, McLaurin moved into the top 10 in kills all-time at Oklahoma. In that match she passed Maraget Page (1983-86) and Trenell Carter (1984-87), who had 1,170 and 1,171, respectively. McLaurin’s 1,219 currently rank her ninth. She trails Kerri Mulry (1985-88) by 24 for eighth.

    7. Top-25 Match-Up
    The Sooners return home on Saturday, November 2 to take on No. 1 Texas at 6:30 pm in McCasland Field House. Oklahoma last played the No. 1 team in the country when it was swept at Nebraska in 2012. The Cornhuskers were also the last No. 1 team to visit Norman when the Sooners were swept, 3-0, in 2007.
