  • Memorial services with military honors for Monroe Albert Cosey, 87, of Ardmore, will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov.r 9, 2013, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. Frank Lewis-Cox and the Rev. Kirk Rushing officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
    Monroe was born May 27, 1926, in Ardmore, to the late W.B. and Mita (McKissic) Cosey. He went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 1, 2013, at Mercy Hospital Ardmore.
    Monroe married the former Margie Bell Manuel on Sept. 13, 1950, in Ardmore.
    Monroe accepted Christ at a very early age at Sunrise Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon and choir director and president.
    Monroe was a graduate of Douglass High School and had also attended Langston University. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He belonged to the After 6 Club, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the Men in Black, and was past President of the Douglass Alumni Association. He had worked for Mercy Hospital Ardmore, the State of Oklahoma, and had retired from BancFirst, where he had worked as a courier.
    His parents and two sisters, Doris Armstrong and Jessye Lee Rankin, preceded him in death.
    He is survived by his wife, Margie Bell Cosey of the home; sister, Coletta Williams of Ardmore; brother-in-law, Floyd Manuel of Ardmore; son, Henri Cosey and wife, Beverly of Houston, Texas; daughter, Stacey Berry and husband, John of Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughters, Danyelle Rankin of Kansas City, Mo., and Rochelle Cody of Ardmore; grandsons, Marcus Cody of Kansas City, Mo., Pierre Corner-Jones, Paris Corner and Golden Corner, all of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jaylah Stubblefield of Ardmore, and Reggie Corner of Houston, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends; and also very special friends, Charles Cox and wife, Betty of Ardmore.
    Honorary casket bearers will be Charles Cox, Thomas Davenport, I.G. Godwin, James McGee, James Stubblefield II, Troy Harris and After 6 Club members.
