Seniors Whitney Ritchie and Mia Lancaster will represent OU women’s tennis at the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Ritchie and Lancaster won the Central Region doubles championship on Oct. 21 in Norman to clinch a spot in the indoor national championship tournament. The OU duo is one of 20 teams that qualified for the championship.

As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.

Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the USTA/ITA National Small College Super Bowl, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists and singles quarter finalists from the ITA Men’s and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.

Ritchie and Lancaster will have a bye in the round of 32 and will play either Julia Elbaba and Rachel Pierson of Virginia or Sarah Lee and Ronit Yurovsky of Michigan in the round of 16. The tournament begins Thursday, Nov.7, at 8 a.m. CT.

The Central Region title was the first tournament for the Sooner pair since going undefeated in Big 12 Conference play in 2011 where they ended with a 13-2 record. At the regional, the duo won four straight matches to win OU’s fourth doubles regional title in five years.

This is the first appearance at the National Indoor Championships for Lancaster and the second for Ritchie who advanced after winning the Central Region doubles title in 2011 with former Sooner Marie-Pier Huet.
