The Ardmore Fire Department is excited about an opportunity to give back to the community, which it serves daily.
The fire department, along with Fitzu Designs, Vogue Salon & Tanning and Holland Health Chiropractic Center, are designated collection points for the second annual Be A Blessing Food Drive, sponsored by Pit Pros Quick Lube, which also serves as a collection point. Donations from the food drive will be shared amongst the Ardmore Childrens Shelter, The Ardmore Soup Kitchen and the Salvation Army.
"As a collective group, we are excited about this opportunity to team up with Pit Pros and other Ardmore businesses to help with a great cause," says Ardmore Fire Chief Cary Williamson. "This food drive helps symbolize what the holiday season is about. And we feel it is important to give back to the community."
The food drive began Nov. 11 and will run through Dec. 14. The goal is to surpass the 3,500 donated canned items from the first drive in 2012. Pit Pros assistant manager Meagan Sales says the business wants to expand the drive and make it a more comprehensive community event.
"I just branched out, this is our community and we wanted local businesses to be involved so I took time to contact a number of them," Sales says. "So far, we have collected 350 canned goods, and we have 26 sponsors. My goal for 2014 is to collect 10,000 items."
