  • Thirty-nine percent of those who participated in a recent independent survey say they use their credit cards too much.

The poll was conducted with 1,000 American adults.

Here’s the rest of the results:

82 percent have at least one credit card, including 38 percent who have three or more, while 44 percent report having one or two credit cards and 16 percent say they don’t have any.

Just 10 percent of credit card holders say they’ve missed a credit card payment in the past six months, showing no change in three years.

23 percent now say it’s likely they’ll miss a credit card payment in the next six months, doubling findings in February 2012.

The latest finding ties the level measured in May 2009 and includes 13 percent who say it’s Very Likely they’ll miss a payment in the near future, but 76 percent of credit card users don’t anticipate missing a payment, including 50 percent who say it’s Not At All Likely.

39 percent of credit card owners admit they personally need to cut back on using them and other borrowing, while 54 percent don’t think they need to cut back.
