  • Funeral services for Vera Veda Smith, 84, of Ardmore, will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013, 10 a.m., at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Tolbert and the Rev. Jimmy May officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore. Family visitation will be held today from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
    Veda was born on August 2, 1929, in Springer, Oklahoma, to the late Claris Oral and Victoria Myrtle (Wisdom) Patton. She died Wednesday morning, December 4, 2013, at the Mercy Memorial Health Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
    Veda married Emmit Gerald Smith on June 21, 1947, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2008.
    Veda has lived in Ardmore most of her life, and had attended Springer Public Schools. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, camping, playing games, and most importantly, spending time with her family. She had worked as a grocery store checker and a desk clerk at the Days Inn and Comfort Inn.
    She is survived by her son, Larry Smith and his wife, Janie; daughters, Vicky Scott and husband, Jamie, and Judy Salthouse, all of Ardmore, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Carrie Dewbre and husband, John of Healdton, Oklahoma, Kaleena Burton and husband, Buddy of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Misty Renee Smith of Sherman, Texas, Ryan Clark and wife, Shayna, and Paitin Sanders, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Brenden Burton, Rylan Burton and Emmit Clark, all of Ardmore, Oklahoma; sisters, Winona Bagley and Jean Chinn, both of Ardmore, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; and a special nephew, Jimmy Smith and wife, Geanie of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a nephew, Virgal Bagley.
    Casket bearers will be Joe Fergerson, Calvin Wormack, Frank Clark, Butch Hulett, Paul Doughty and Wendell Thornton.
    Honorary casket bearers will be Oscar Interiano and Mac Patel.
