Graveside services for Mary J. McMeans were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with Lynn Puckett officiating. Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
McMeans was born April 23, 1923, in Ardmore, the daughter of John Cole and Gertrude Vandervier-Cole. She passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Sterling House Senior Living Center in Enid at the age of 90.
McMeans grew up and attended schools in Ardmore. She married Fred T. McMeans in Ardmore on Aug. 15, 1942, and the two moved to Vance Air Force Base in Enid where Mr. McMeans served for three years during World War II. After his service, the two returned to Marietta, where Mrs. McMeans resided until 2003. While in Marietta, Mrs. McMeans was involved in many civic and community organizations and actively supported the schools. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church. In 2003, Mrs. McMeans moved to San Angelo, Texas, where she lived with her son for eight years before moving to Enid where she had been currently residing.
McMeans was preceded in death by her parents; and later by her husband Fred on Sept. 28, 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Joe R. McMeans and his wife, Martha of San Angelo, and Dr. Monte Chris McMeans and his wife, Ruthie of Enid; and by two grandchildren Christie McMeans of Enid and Law McMeans and his wife, Cassidy, of Norman.
