Dorothy Gene Southern, 83, of Plano, Texas, passed away Dec. 13, 2013 in Plano, Texas, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Earlsboro, Okla., to William Horace and Alice (Griffin) Moss. Dorothy grew up in Ardmore, and had been a 50-year resident of Oklahoma City prior to moving to Plano, where she spent her final five years living at The Legacy At Willow Bend.
She is survived by her son, Shawn Southern and wife, Heidi, of Plano, Texas; granddaughter Elizabeth Southern of Oklahoma City; grandson David Southern of Plano, Texas; and many other extended family members and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jerry Ben Southern, and four brothers and sisters.
Dorothy was truly blessed to have had a long and enjoyable life filled with family, great friends and a diverse wealth of interests. Those interests included reading, photography, geneology, music and world travel. She was a past president of the Oklahoma County Women's Dental Auxiliary, a graduate of Bethany Nazarene College, and lent her skills and energy to many volunteer causes, including Collin County Meals On Wheels.
She was a remarkable woman and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private memorial service for the family is pending.
