HINTON — Ruby Elizabeth Megli was born on August 26, 1926, in Colony, Okla., to John Henry and Georgia Etta (Radford) Megli. She passed away on December 20, 2013, in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the age of 87. Ruby was born and raised in Washita County and lived in Colony, Corn, Cowden, and Moss Grove (east of Hinton).
As a child during the Great Depression, she rode in a covered wagon when her family moved to Dickens, Texas, before returning to the Cowden area. She started her working career at the Rexall Drug in Hinton, Okla., where she enjoyed working the soda fountain. Ruby moved to Oklahoma City as a young woman and worked at Beverly’s Restaurant. She loved waitressing and had many regulars who asked for her by name.
After retirement, she moved in with her nephew, Bob Burke, in Oklahoma City, Okla., and later with her nephew, Dave Burke, in Wilson, Okla., and her sister, Rosie, in Orangeburg, S.C. Ruby was a born-again Christian. She loved traveling and visited many places such as Hawaii, Germany, Italy, England, and Thailand. Ruby loved crochet and presented her friends and family with homemade doilies and pillows. Ruby also loved visiting the Senior Citizen Center while living in Wilson, Okla. She had many friends there and enjoyed lunches and special dinners, theatre and musical events, and shopping trips. She was always known to her nephews and nieces lovingly as Aunt Ruby.
Survivors include her sister, Rosie Fogle of Orangeburg, S.C.; her nephews, Bob Burke of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dave Burke and wife, Kim, of Wilson, Okla., and Jerry Fogle and wife, Chantra, of Atlanta, Ga.; her niece, Mary Beth Becker of Orangeburg, S.C.; her great-nephews, Micky Burke of Wichita, Kan., Kendall Burke of Wilson, Okla., Brandon Burke of Oklahoma City, Okla., and David Fogle, South Carolina; her great-nieces, Amanda Burke of Oklahoma City, Okla., Christina Hodges and husband, Danny, Kellie Burke, and Katie Burke, all of Wilson, Okla., Blair Becker, Orangeburg, S.C., Stephanie Bealer, South Carolina; great-great-nephews, Dillon and William Privitt, Oklahoma City, Okla., Clay Hodges, Wilson, Okla., Logan and Colin Wolfe, Orangeburg, S.C., and Aiden and Troy Fogle, South Carolina; great-great-nieces, Destiny Privitt, Oklahoma City, Okla., Lexy Hodges, Wilson, Okla., Malle Fogle, S.C.; and as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Georgia Megli; her siblings, Ralph Megli and sister-in-law, Joy Megli, Ruth Burke, brother-in-law, Sam Fogle; and great nephew, Daryl Burke.
Services: Hinton-Turner Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, 10 a.m., December 23, 2013, Hinton, Okla.
Officiating: the Rev. Keith Gillham.
Burial: Van Dyke Cemetery, Cowden, Okla., entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, Hinton, Oklahoma.
