The Oklahoma Youth Orchestras is calling all 7th-9th grade string players interested in playing in the brand new pop and rock string orchestra, Rockin’ Strings! This 15-week program is accepting pre-registrations for the group’s first rehearsal January 16, 2014.
Created as a Trans-Siberian Orchestra experience, students will explore music from Katy Perry to Led Zeppelin as well as legendary film scores. Teaching proper technique and challenging musicianship still prevails while preparing for each exciting concert. “Providing a ‘pops’ ensemble provides new and current students with an opportunity to study music outside the classical realm, giving them a well-rounded music education. Not to mention, it’s fun!” said Executive Director Jason Edward Grife.
Rockin’ Strings is a non-audition ensemble open to string players grades 7-9 with at least one year of ensemble experience. Rehearsals will be held Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church located at 1401 NW 25th St. in Oklahoma City and will commence January 16.
