Memorial services for Barbara Ritter will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at the Craddock Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Caro officiating. A private family inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Barbara Ritter passed from this life on March 10, 2014, in Oklahoma City. She was born on June 7, 1922, in Austin, Texas, to Dr. A.K. Christian and Ethel Tucker Christian.

When Barbara was only two months old, her family moved to Norman, where her father taught history at the University of Oklahoma. Barbara attended the University High School in Norman, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. She worked at the Naval Hospital in Norman during World War II.

She married Gene T. Ritter of Ardmore on Sept. 30, 1947, in Norman. They then moved to Ardmore where they made their home and raised their children.

She is survived by her daughters, Polly Ritter Garvey and Sally Christian Ritter, both of Oklahoma City; her six grandchildren, Gene Travis Ritter III of Ardmore, Sarah Ritter Mercado of Brooklyn, N.Y., Katy Garvey Morris of San Diego, Matthew David Garvey of Oklahoma City, John Lyle Walters Jr. of Edmond and Zachary Lee Walters of Los Angeles; five great-grandchildren, Hannah and Emma Ritter of Ardmore, Lucy Mercado of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dean Garvey of Oklahoma City, Madeline Morris of San Diego, and baby boy Walters of Edmond on the way in April; and her nieces, Beverly Winston and Sharon Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; son Gene Travis Ritter Jr.; and sisters Doris Woodruff and Donabell Linney.
