  • No. 19 Women’s Tennis Travels to California for Two Matches

  • The University of Tulsa women’s tennis team travels to California for two matches on Sunday and Tuesday.
     
    No. 19 Golden Hurricane (11-3) faces host San Jose State (7-9) on Sunday at noon and faces host No. 16 California (6-4) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
     
    The match against California and San Jose State will be the first time that Tulsa has faced either opponent under head coach Dean Orford.
     
    The Golden Hurricane has only lost two doubles point this season out of 14 matches played this season. TU lost the doubles point to host No. 31 Oklahoma State and host No. 30 Purdue.
     
    The Golden Hurricane is coming off a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Wednesday. Tulsa won the doubles point, but the Sooners won the first three singles matches at the No. 5, No. 4 and No. 6 singles position to take a 3-1 lead.
     
    Tulsa battled back after a Samantha Vickers 6-3, 7-6 (5) win at the No. 1 singles position and a Yelena Nemchen’s 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 3 singles position to tie the match at three, but the Sooners won the final match at the No. 2 singles position.
     
    Cichon, who fell at the No. 5 singles position, lost her first match in the dual competition and to snap her 16-match winning streak. Cichon has posted a 24-4 record this season, including a 13-1 record in dual matches.
     
    Nemchen’s win was her seventh win in a row and has posted a 16-4 record this season, including an 8-2 record in dual matches at the No. 3 singles position.
     
    The Golden Hurricane returns home to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to face Wichita State on March 29 at noon and Texas Arlington on March 30 at noon.
