  • Troopers assigned to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Motorcycle Division will conduct a “Saferiders” civilian motorcycle safety course Saturday in the parking lot of Lone Grove High School.
“It’s a full day of riding and fun, and it’s free to the public, with an additional bonus of receiving a three-year discount on their personal insurance rates,” said Trooper David Cavens, one of the course instructors.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation funds the course, which will be conduced from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“ODOT came to OHP requesting our help to go across the state teaching a civilian motorcycle safety course to help reduce the number of motorcycle incidents and collision,” Cavens said, adding that with rising fuel costs, more and more riders are using their motorcycles as their primary means of transportation. “Ultimately, increased use means having a higher number of reported incidents and collisions.”
    The course focuses on:
    - Head and eye techniques
    - Clutch and throttle control
    - Proper use of braking
    - Evasive maneuver techniques
Those interested in attending the class can register online at ohpsaferiders.com by clicking on classes and scrolling down to Lone Grove.
