In a recent poll of 1.000 American adults Ellen DeGeneres, Stephen Colbert and Conan O’Brien were named as the leading favorites for Letterman’s job.


Almost half, 47 percent, share a somewhat favorable opinion of late night talk show host, David Letterman, including 13 percent with a very favorable opinion of him, while 33 percent view him somewhat unfavorably, with 14 percent who have a very unfavorable opinion.


DeGeneres and Colbert each got 14 percent of the votes as the best new host for The Late Show, while former Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien is the choice of 12 percent. Actress Tina Fey pulled 10 percent, while 7 percent prefer comedian Chris Rock, and 3 percent feel Chelsea Handler should take over Letterman’s slot. The survey also showed 22 percent like someone else for the job and 18 percent are undecided.


Among those who watch late-night television every night or nearly night, Colbert leads the pack with 20 percent support for the CBS job.
