  • A 21-year-old Ardmore man was arrested Wednesday night when a motorist, who was struggling with him inside his car, waved down a police officer and asked for help.
But Derrick Wilkerson didn’t go to jail for getting in a tussle with the driver of the car in which he was riding.
According to Ardmore Police Department reports, Officer Jared Taylor was on routine patrol shortly after 7 p.m. when he spotted a car in the 1200 block of Wolverton Street. The driver appeared to be struggling with a passenger, later identified as Wilkerson. When the driver saw Taylor, he sought his assistance in freeing himself from the combatant.
Wilkerson was subdued and detained, and it was during the subsequent investigation that he was found to be not only in possession of a substantial amount of marijuana, but a gun as well.
Wilkerson was booked into the Carter County Detention Center. The driver was not arrested.
Thursday, Wilkerson was charged by the district attorney’s office with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He made an initial appearance in district court before Special District Judge Thomas Baldwin. Bond was set at $20,000.
Late Thursday, Wilkerson remained incarcerated pending the posting of bond.
