Funeral services for Bill Jerald Newman, 80, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Lone Grove, with Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow at Lone Grove Cemetery.

The son of the late Charlie Newman and Alta (Crawford) Newman, Billy was born on Nov. 20, 1933 in Sikeston, Mo. Bill moved to Lone Grove at an early age and graduated from Lone Grove High School. He served his country in the Army National Guard for three years. Bill and the former Mildred Jo Rutledge were married Aug. 28, 1954 in Ardmore. He had worked with Noble Drilling for 16 years and with Michelin for 10 years. Bill retired to farm and ranch. A member and a Deacon with the Cheek Baptist Church. He enjoyed working, fishing, hog hunting and played a mean game of chicken foot dominos.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; daughters Becky Conway and husband Larry of Lone Grove and Donna Steele and husband Mike of Ardmore; sons Charles Newman and wife Cynthia of Mequite, Texas and Harold Newman and wife Sandy of Lone Grove; grandchildren Kim Davidson, Lisa Prickett, Bryan Conway, Courtney Steele, Cody Steele, Jared, Gavin, Ethan, Justin and Brent Newman, and Ashley Fly; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Geneva Graves, Charlene Stanly and Betty McBride, his twin sister; and brother Ralph Newman.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Bryan Conway, Cody Steele, Justin Newman, Brent Newman, Gavin Newman, Jared Newman and Ethan Newman.

The family will receive friends at the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home this evening from 6 to 8.
