Funeral services for Jerry Doss Ward, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory, conducted by the Rev. David Gardner, pastor of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
A time of visitation and support for family and friends will be from 6 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
Son of the late Fenoy Richard Ward and Ruby Lee Doss Ward, Jerry was born Aug. 6, 1936, at Booneville, Ark. A longtime educator, Jerry graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and from Oklahoma State University. He had served in the Oklahoma National Guard.
He and the former Wanda Jean Sneed were married July 26, 1958, at Tishomingo. They moved to Ardmore in 1961, joining the Ardmore City Schools as classroom teachers. They were the parents of a daughter, Leisa. Wanda passed away Oct. 26, 1992.
In 2002, Jerry and Lena Beth Keltner were married on the 15th day of March at Ardmore.
In the Ardmore public school system, Jerry taught math and science in the middle school, fifth and sixth grade, and was also a bus driver. He retired with 30 years of valued service to the Ardmore community.
He had been a board member at the First Church of the Nazarene, where he was a youth group leader. He most recently was attending the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church. During his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Jerry passed away at his rural Ardmore residence April 22, 2014, following an apparent heart attack.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Ward of the home; his daughter, Leisa McDonald and husband Robert of Cedar Park, Texas; a stepdaughter, Sharon Oakes and husband Mike, and a stepson, Larry Don Hull and wife, Sandie, all of the Dickson community; and four step-grandchildren, Laramie and Lane Hull, Macie Hartman and Bailey Oakes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation or the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Services and Cremation-With-Care are under the direction of Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.
