Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church to celebrate the life of Katherine Humdy Johnson. Pastor Kirk Rushing will give the eulogy, and the Rev. Ronnie Godwin will officiate. Interment will follow in Clearview Cemetery.

Johnson, 88 years old, was the youngest of nine children born to Peter and Lillie Hood Humdy. She was born Aug. 21, 1925. A longtime resident of the Berwyn community, she attended school in Sulphur and the Lincoln Consolidated School in Berwyn, which later became known as Gene Autry. She married Cecil Roy Johnson Nov. 10, 1941. At the time of his death on April 28, 2004, they had been married 63 years. She accepted Jesus as Lord of her life and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for 70 years. A devoted and committed member, she served with many ministries, which include president of the Women Mission for numerous years, a member of the ushers’ board, deaconess, member of the choir, worked with the youth department and always attended Sunday School. Two of her favorite hymns were “Near the Cross” and “I am on the Battlefield for my Lord.” She was employed several years at Ardmore’s Air Force Base and American Flyers’ Cafeteria. She departed this mortal life April 21, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Ardmore.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; siblings Mary Forbes, Dovie Forbes, L.G. Stevenson, Geneva Banks, Dorothy Humdy, Thomas Humdy, Gladys Humdy and Lonnie Humdy; and three nieces, Lillie Faii Gordon, Wanda Bajwa and Esther Godwin.

She leaves to forever cherish her life three children, Albert Johnson, Charles Johnson and Carolyn Pirtle, all of Ardmore; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Honorary bearers are members of the Mount Pleasant Brotherhood. Active bearers are Stephen Pirtle, Bryan Pirtle, Albert Johnson Jr., Delmar Forbes, John Johnson, Antoine Herbert, Ricky Howard, Van Howard and Guy Humdy.

Honorary flower bearers are members of the Women Mission. Flower bearers are Willie Reagan, Margaret Gordon, Loretta Forbes, Donna Carr, Lydra Lofton, Lou Ella Pickens and Tonya McCloud.

Viewal will be between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
