  • Ricky Parnell Forward probably wasn’t planning on roaming the countryside when he was traveling through Dickson early Thursday. But after he was taken into custody because of drugs found in his car, Forward decided to make a run for it.
Dickson Police Chief John Ruiz said authorities are searching for Forward, who is described as a black male with numerous tattoos. Forward was last seen handcuffed, wearing shorts.
Ruiz initiated a traffic stop around 10:15 a.m. inside Dickson city limits by Dogwood Road. Forward did not pull over until he reached Quinn Road, where a Carter County Sheriff’s Department deputy assisted Ruiz.
“When I approached the subject and made contact, he was acting suspiciously,” Ruiz said.
Forward initially offered a false name and said he did not have a driver’s license. He was placed under arrest, placed in the deputy’s vehicle and provided his real name. It was learned that Forward has numerous warrants in his name in Texas. Ruiz brought out his narcotics dog, which signaled a possible drug find. Ruiz searched the spot where the dog indicated drugs and discovered one bag each of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.
It was about that time Forward got out of the vehicle and fled the scene, still handcuffed. Additional authorities from the city, county and highway patrol were called in, but were unable to locate Forward. The department received a call from a resident on Red Bud Road near Province Road, who reported a man matching Forward’s description in handcuffs who had asked to use the phone. Authorities went to the scene, but were unable to find Forward.
Ruiz said authorities continued to search Thursday afternoon, and encouraged residents to contact the department should Forward be located.
