Funeral services for David Lee Norton, 71, of Wilson, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Rexroat Baptist Church of Wilson, with the Rev. Jim Roebuck officiating and the Rev. Monte Dean assisting. Interment will follow at the Keller Cemetery in Wilson. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Wilson.

David Lee Norton was born Nov. 24, 1942, at Minco, to Dalphus Lee Norton and Pansy Zenia Lawania (Hacker) Norton. He passed from this life Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Ardmore.

David was raised in Lone Grove, attending school there and graduating from Lone Grove High School in 1960. He attended college at Murray State College, where he was in ROTC. David married Kay Emerson on Dec. 14, 1963, at the Rexroat Baptist Church. They resided in Lone Grove on Texaco Road for 31 years later moving to Wilson. David worked at Michelin Tire Company in quality control for 31 years retiring in 2001. He was a deacon at Rexroat Baptist Church for many years, and was always very involved in his church. David was also a very talented carpenter, building customized cabinets and their family homes. He enjoyed gold panning and spending time with his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Dalphus and Pansy Norton; and infant sister Nelda Joan Norton, who preceded him on Dec. 22, 1941.

He is survived by his wife Kay Norton of the home; five children, Shelly Christian and husband Cliff of Fox, Kelly Brawley and husband Mike of Lone Grove, Becky Glenn and husband Tim of Healdton, Chris Norton of Wilson, and Ginny Kaye Dollar and husband Michael of Wilson; sisters Brenda Norton of Lone Grove, and Lawania Denim and husband Randy of Lone Grove; brothers Gerald Norton of Ardmore, Larry Norton of Ardmore, Raymond Norton and wife Betty of Lone Grove, and Louis Norton and wife Cindy of Jonesville, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Dustin and Daria of Ardmore, Lori and Ash of Ada, Mark and Chelsey of Healdton, Levi and Ashley of Wilson, Curtis and Petra of Yoakum, Texas, Josh and Macey of Ringling, Whitney, Katie, Sommer, Matthew, Rachel and Aaron; seven great-grandchildren, Skylar, Haven, Gracie, Aleeya, Keller, Lane, Abby and one more on the way; three step-grandchildren, Brittany, Darla and Chris; seven step-great-grandchildren, Camden, Madison, Alysa, Hunter, Domenic, Kinley and Anden; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Pallbearers are Larry Gunter, Brian Hunziker, Jack Brown, Kevin Bone, Bennie Cartwright and Gary Garrett.

Honorary bearers are Roy Hunziker, Randy Denim, Jerry Pletcher, Bobby Price, Dennis Baker, Gary Whitener and Loren Hacker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at Rexroat Baptist Church of Wilson.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
