Katie Joe (Barrington) Clements, 80, departed this life on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Cleveland, Okla. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Ardmore. Pastor Jeremy Buck will be officiating services.
Katie was born Feb. 24, 1934, to R.W. Barrington and Myrtle (Haney) Barrington at Throckmorton, Texas. After graduating from high school in 1951, Katie met Jack Clements, the man of her dreams, at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. They married, started a family, and eventually moved to New Home, Texas. In 1964, they moved to Mangum to start farming and ranching. They moved to Ardmore in 1991. Katie and Jack were well-known and recognized as committed, caring people who devoted their lives to helping people emotionally, physically and spiritually. Many lives were enriched by her love and mentoring. She was blessed with the gift of seeing people’s hearts. Katie loved and welcomed people into her life with warmth and affection and was much loved in return. She could see the treasure in everyone and everything.
Katie wore many different hats in her colorful life. She loved being involved with people, whether as school librarian, operating her grocery store “Katie’s Country Cupboard” or antique store “Katie’s Used a Bit,” working with church youth activities, pastoral care at the hospital or ministering through the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma Disaster Relief Team. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and loved finding a good sale. In 2013, due to declining health and mobility, Katie sold her home and moved to Cleveland, Okla., to be closer to family. In the last 15 months of her life, she continued to make new friends who enriched her life there. She was loved by so many — and will be greatly missed.
Katie was preceded in death by Jack, her loving husband of 52 years; her mother and father, R.W. and Myrtle Barrington; a grandson, Matthew Thomas Buck; brothers Robert, Snookie, Ralph, Tommy, Steven and Eddie Barrington; and sisters Rosa, Martha, Ruby, and Marie.
Katie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jackson Clements and wife Brenda of Paradise, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Nunneley and husband Mike of Mannsford, and Shirley Buck and husband Mike of Pampa, Texas; six grandchildren, Nikki Luna, Kaitlyn Uselton and husband B.J., Brad Nunneley and wife Kari, Kyle Nunneley and wife Heidi, Jeremy Buck and wife Karmen, and Shanna Buck; five great-grandchildren, Kylie Nunneley, Barrett Nunneley, Karsen Buck, Clarity Uselton and Trinity Uselton; one brother, Fred Barrington and wife Connie of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; and countless other loving family members and friends.
