A 38-year-old woman is behind bars facing charges she stabbed her boyfriend during an argument Tuesday night.

Ardmore police were called to a residence in the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard about 9:40 p.m. Lorena De Cantu Garcia was arrested at the scene without incident. Andreas Garcia, 27, who had been stabbed one time in the left side of the chest, was taken by ambulance to the local hospital.

Det. Brandon Cathey, Ardmore Police Department Criminal Investigations, is assigned as the lead investigator in the case. Wednesday afternoon, Cathey said it was unclear what the two had been arguing about at the time the stabbing occurred.

“The victim was being medically treated and was only able to give us limited information,” Cathey said, adding the man was later airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Although both the woman and the victim have the same last name, Cathey said the two are not married and are not blood relatives.

“They are involved in a (romantic) relationship,” he said, adding while it appears the stabbing is the result of domestic abuse there have been no prior domestic disturbance/abuse incidents involving the couple reported to the APD.

The detective said the victim’s medical condition was not immediately available.

Late Wednesday, Lorena Garcia remained detained at the county jail pending formal charges.
