  • Jessie Ray Eubanks, born Feb. 18, 1940, danced his final measure in the afternoon hours of May 11, 2014.
The family will be available for visitation from 5 to 7 this evening at Don Grantham Funeral Home, and hope you will join them again in celebration of Jessie’s life at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Duncan Cemetery.
A native son of Oklahoma, Jessie lived a rich and vibrant life full of music and mirth. Jessie attended Fox High School before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he was known as “Smiley.” He worked as a carpet layer, cabinet maker and carpenter, all while working at and finally retiring from Valero Refinery in Ardmore. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Jessie had a soft spot for people with disabilities, and served as a volunteer guardian for two individuals.
He is survived by his four children, Jay Eubanks and spouse Lori, of Sanger, Texas, Robin Arter and spouse Steve, of Duncan, Wayne Eubanks of Ardmore and Sonja Jones and spouse Ken, of Duncan; nine grandchildren, Jessie, Sam, Hannah, Steven, Dustin, John Paul, Jake, Emmalee and Rhaylee; four great-grandchildren, Jessie, Bonnie, Cooper and Jonathan; his former spouse Sandra Eubanks, and his brother, Calvin Eubanks, both of Ardmore; and countless other relatives, friends and dance enthusiasts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Alene Lucas Eubanks; his father, Jessie Eubanks; his sister, Odessa Downs; and a great-granddaughter, Paisley Davidson.
To those who know and love him, Jessie was an endless font of support, an infinite well of humor and old time witticisms and, despite the geographic boundaries, undoubtedly Cajun where it counts.
Pallbearers include Jay Eubanks, Jessie Eubanks, Sam Eubanks, Wayne Eubanks, Steve Arter, Steven Arter, Jake Kring and Ken Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Eubanks, Ricky Eubanks and Mike Stephens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Duncan People First, 1301 W. Main, Duncan, OK or Duncan Senior Citizen Center, 1110 N. 7th St., Duncan, OK.
