Thursday was National Police Memorial Day, a day on which law enforcement personnel remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duty. Flags are also flown at half staff for the day in honor of the fallen comrades.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Department paid tribute to those who died in the line of duty in the county. On hand Thursday for a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument in front of the Sheriff’s Department were Undersheriff Gregg Johnson, CCDC Administrator Michael Armstrong, Deputy Kenny Carroll and Sheriff Milton Anthony.
