  • An All-State performer per the Oklahoma Slow Pitch Softball Coaches Association, Davis coach David Griffin spoke highly of Lexi Williams’ consistency during her career.
The Wolves’ senior third baseman hit .530 in 83 at-bats, drove in 24 runs and scored 35, and earned All-Ardmoreite slow-pitch Most Valuable Player.
“When she was at Davis, she started as a freshman,” Griffin said. “She played third base, some shortstop and she’s also pitched for us in fast-pitch a couple years ago,” Griffin said. “She’s an athlete that kind of did whatever we needed her to do, whatever position we needed her to play.
“She was a big part of our success the last four years.”
She also reached base at a .564 clip.
“It’s an honor to be awarded MVP in my senior year after all of the hard work that I’ve put in the last four years of high school and tournament ball,” Williams said.
Williams helped lead Davis, the No. 5 team in Class 4A, to five state tournament appearances in her career: two in fast-pitch and three in slow-pitch.
“She was a big part of that,” Griffin said.
Griffin said she was a leading hitter and fielder every year.
Williams signed a scholarship offer to play softball at East Central University, though Griffin said Williams is undecided whether she will play.
The Wolves lost a ten-inning contest, 7-5, to Class 4A No. 1 Dale on May 6.
“Lexi has done a really good job for us,” Griffin said in an October 9 story. “Normally, she plays third but she moved to shortstop when we had an injury. She hits in the middle .400s and is a good leader. This will be her fourth trip to state.”
    Make it five.
“I feel like I accomplished a lot receiving this award my senior year,” Williams said.
