A Lone Grove man is behind bars facing pending charge of possession of child pornography.

Carter County Sheriff Anthony Milton said 53-year-old Donald Chaney was taken into custody without incident Tuesday afternoon and booked into the Carter County Detention Center. The sheriff said Chaney had become the target of an investigation earlier in the day after the Carter County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the OSBI.

“We received a call from the OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children unit. They told us of a possible case going on at a residence on Van Horn Street in Lone Grove. I immediately assigned deputies to look into it,” Anthony said.

Deputies went to the resident and contacted Chaney, who was inside the house.

“The deputies told him why they were there. They asked him if he had porn on his computer, and he did make admissions. He also gave the deputies consent to search. His computer was confiscated, and numerous pieces of evidence — of what appears to be pornography involving children age 13 and younger — were collected from his computer,” the sheriff said.

Anthony indicated reports will be sent to the district attorney’s office today, and it was possible multiple counts of possession of child porn could be filed in the case. Charges could be filed as early as this afternoon.

Discussing the multiple pieces of evidence in case, the sheriff said, “This goes along with our policy of responding quickly to reports of potential crimes against children in Carter County. Put in the simplest of terms, crimes against children will absolutely not be tolerated by this department.”

Lone Grove police assisted the CCSD at the scene.
