The “No Excuses” high school softball camp that was cancelled because of rain last week has been rescheduled for July 21-22 in Gainesville.
A pair of former North Central Texas College softball players who have gone on to play at the NCAA level will be among the instructors at the camp to be held at North Central Texas College's Darwin Field.
Guest instructors at this year's camp will include Southeastern Oklahoma State University standout Mindy McElroy and North Texas Mean Green starter Kat Strunk. McElroy led Southeastern to the Great American Conference championship title this year. Southeastern also won NCAA subregional and regional championships to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Salem, Va.
Before becoming a star at Southeastern, McElroy played two years at NCTC, leading the team to 87 wins and two berths in the regional tournament.
Strunk set 10 school batting records during her two years at NCTC while leading the Lady Lions to the regional championship game in 2013. She signed with North Texas and stayed in the starting lineup most of the season, finishing third on the team in batting.
The “No Excuses” Softball Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 21, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Lunch will be provided on Monday.
In addition to instruction and skill development, campers will have the chance to ask questions of instructors and staff about college softball, get recruiting advice and learn more about time requirements for collegiate student-athletes.
