Former Tulsa rower Zoe Fleischmann will represent the United States in Italy this summer as she earned a spot on the US Rowing Under 23 National Team.
“I am incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to represent the USA at the U23 World Championships this summer,” Fleischmann said. “The training and love for the sport I found while rowing at TU gave me the confidence to chase a dream I've had for several years - to wear the USA uniform! I can't wait to have fun and row hard in Varese, Italy on July 21-27."
Fleischmann paired with Princeton’s Margaret Bertasi in the Women’s U23 Double and turned in a qualifying time of 7:21.97, 11 seconds faster than the second-place crew.
Fleischmann was a two-year letter winner from 2011-13 at Tulsa. She competed in 15 regattas, racing in the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ boats.
“It goes without saying, but I’m incredibly proud of Zoe,” Tulsa Head Rowing Coach Kevin Harris said. “She worked really hard here at Tulsa and this is one of her dreams, so to see her accomplish it is very exciting for me and the entire team. She is going to do great things in Italy next month and I think I speak for the entire Golden Hurricane community when I say we will be cheering her on.”
Tulsa junior Marissa Catalanotto will be competing in the Lightweight Women’s U23 Single tomorrow in hopes of also making the National Team. Emalia Seto and Jamie Roloff raced in the Double, and Lindsay Crute raced in the Single today, but did not advance.
