University of Oklahoma infielder Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) earned his second Freshman All-America honor of the year as he was named the third baseman of the Baseball America Freshman All-America First Team. He was previously included on the Collegiate Baseball News Freshman All-America Team presented by Louisville Slugger.
Neuse, the lone representative from the Big 12 on the first team, has split his summer between the San Luis Obispo Blues and the Team USA Collegiate National Team.
During his rookie season, Neuse was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team. He hit .304 with a team-high seven home runs and 47 RBI to go with 17 doubles and seven triples. On the mound, Neuse made nine appearances with one save, a 1-0 record, 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 12 innings.
He is the Sooners’ first Baseball America Freshman All-American since Dillon Overton in 2011. Max White (2010), Aaron Baker (2007), Kody Kaiser (2005), Austin Mix (2000) and Rick Park (1997) all previously received the same honor.
