  • Holiday weekend crackdowns slated

  • Capt. Ronnie Hampton, commander, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop F headquartered in Ardmore, has some pre-holiday advice for those who plan to celebrate Independence Day with more than just patriotic spirit.
“Now is the time for those that plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to make good decisions,” Hampton said.
Along with the advice, Hampton is issuing a heads up about two crackdowns that will be conducted during the holiday weekend. Area troopers will be conducting an impaired-driving crackdown in a variety of locations throughout the troop, including Carter and Marshall counties. In addition to the OHP-led operation, the crackdown will include participation by municipal, county and tribal agencies. These “Impaired Driving Apprehension Teams” will be operating in Carter and Marshall counties, as well as Garvin and Pontotoc counties.
While those crackdowns are being carried out, another group of troopers will be operating “Point of Last Drink” crackdowns.
“In addition to the regularly scheduled workforce of troopers, OHP Troop F will also have a group of 13 state troopers that will roam the troop area focusing their efforts on the locations inside the troop where data shows a large number of impaired drivers exist,” Hampton explained.
Troop F began tracking and collecting POLD data in January.
“Using this data, we will focus on the locations where most impaired drivers took their last drink,” Hampton said. “Large scale Impaired Driving Apprehension efforts will occur in Carter, Love and Marshall counties through the entire holiday weekend using POLD data.”
