  • Dorothy June Harris was born April 26, 1936, at Baum to Charlie Harold “Doc” West and Elvie Lillian Edwards West. June entered Heaven’s gate on July 5, 2014. She lived in the Baum community until 1949 when her family moved to Ardmore. She was a graduate of Ardmore High School, class of 1954. She was a member of New Hope Church of God.
She married Richard Bob Harris of Bromide on May 24, 1956. They celebrated their 58th anniversary this spring. They had two children, Bobbi June Harris Childers and Richard Chris Harris.
Services will be at New Hope Church of God in Ardmore at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Craddock Funeral Home. Pastor Robert Peterson will be officiating.
June was a dedicated Christian throughout her life. She worked in many areas of the church. As a young woman, she taught the Junior Girls class at Lighthouse Assembly of God. She helped with the Christ Ambassadors youth group and was church secretary/treasurer. She was one of the small groups of women there that also met on Tuesdays to make fried pies to raise money for the Women’s Ministry. They made many pies during that time to sell to others, and would go home many Tuesdays without pies for themselves because they would sell out. June was always in the middle of everything doing her part. If you knew her, you know she always kept everyone laughing by her “I love Lucy” type of escapades. She was always very giving and would give anyone the shirt off her back if they were in need.
For several years June had a booth at the Carter County Arts and Crafts show where she sold her beautiful ceramic products that she had made. She always was a perfectionist, and you knew whatever she had made, it would be quality work.
She worked for several places in Ardmore through the years as a bookkeeper and secretary. Joe Brown, Washita Construction, Lincoln Bank and Stromberg Carlson were some of her work places. She was a very dedicated employee. She retired from the Carter County Treasurer’s Office around 1986. She had to retire because of health reasons.
We rejoice at her homegoing because we just know she is laughing once again and she is able to walk without help and the oxygen tank has been put aside. She is home now with her Savior and we know she is keeping Heaven laughing with her humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Lee West and Alice Charlene West Rogers; and a son-in-law, Ronald Joe “Cowboy” Childers.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Harris of the home; her daughter, Bobbi June Childers, Lone Grove; her son, Richard Chris Harris and wife Terri David of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; four grandchildren, Shanna Kerley and husband Walter, Lone Grove, Sheree Walling, Lone Grove, Gabriel Harris and Brianna Harris, Mt.
