  • It was deja vu for Carter County narcotics officers Tuesday when a raid on a southeast side residence yielded 55-year-old Tony Rainer, an estimated 3 pounds of marijuana and $6,000 in cash, believed to be drug-sale proceeds.
Sheriff Milton Anthony said narcotics officers obtained a search warrant for Rainer’s residence, located at 705 B St. SE, based on an investigation that was launched as the result of an anonymous tip.
“They arrived at the residence and announced their presence. The door was barricaded, and the officers had to force their way inside,” Anthony said.
Rainer and two others were found inside the residence.
“Multiple bags of marijuana were found, and cash was found stashed in two bedrooms,” the sheriff said.
Rainer was taken into custody without incident. The other two people who were present at the time the search warrant was served were released.
Rainer was booked into the Carter County Detention Center.
Wednesday, a charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute was filed against Rainer in district court. He made an initial appearance. Special District Judge Thomas Baldwin set bond at $10,000. A preliminary conference is set for Aug. 26.
Anthony described Rainer’s arrest and the case against him as a repeat.
“We arrested him for the same thing in 2011,” Anthony said.
Rainer pleaded guilty to the previous charge and was convicted.
The sheriff pointed to the case as more proof citizen tips do produce results, and encouraged area residents to remain alert to their surroundings and report any activity they believe is suspicious.
