In a recent telephone survey of 1,000 American adults must said they have received a physical examination within the past 12 months, and more than a third say their doctor recommended that they change some bad habits.

Eighty-three percent have visited the doctor at least once a year. This includes 40 percent who visit a few times a year and 9 percent who go monthly or more. Just 15 percent say they rarely or never visit the doctor.

Sixty-nine percent have seen a doctor for a general physical exam in the last 12 months, and 38 percent say the doctor recommended lifestyle changes in the way they eat, drink or exercise.

Sixty-six percent rate their own overall health as good or excellent, but one-in-five say they’ve gained weight over the past six months.
