  • An Ardmore police officer interrupted an early morning burglary Friday at a downtown business.

APD reports indicate Officer John Johnson responded to a burglar alarm call shortly after midnight in the 300 block of South Washington Street. Johnson noted the doors and windows of the building were “intact” and “locked.” But a further check of a storage building located on the property uncovered Omero Deigo Flores.

Flores was arrested without incident and booked into the Carter County Detention Center pending a series of charges ranging from public intoxication and possession of marijuana to possession of burglar implements and burglary.

Just hours after his arrest, a felony second-degree burglary charge was filed against Flores by the district attorney’s office. The charge accuses the 38-year-old man of “removing screws holding the latch on the door .... with the intent to steal property ....” Prosecutors also added a misdemeanor public intoxication charge to the to case.

Flores made an initial appearance before Special District Judge Thomas Baldwin in Carter County District Court Friday afternoon. Bond was set at $50,000. A preliminary conference is scheduled for Sept. 2.

A check of CCDC records Saturday showed Flores remained detained pending the posting of bond.
