  • Plainview Track Club competes at AAU Junior Olympics in Iowa

  • The Plainview Track Club sent a large contingent to Des Moines, Iowa for the Amateur Athletic Union’s Junior Olympics this past week.
    Madie Gray was the top finisher. Gray won state titles in track and cross country as a sophomore at Plainview High School and continued her strong career with a third-place finish at the Junior Olympics in the 3,000-meters in the 15/16-year-old division. She ran a 10:44.29 and added a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 with a 4:53.44.
    Another Lady Indians star, Kyleigh Norris, finished eighth in the 3,000 with a 11:10.89 and 13th in the 1,500 with a 5:07.24.
    In the 17/18-year-old division, Bailey Sutherlin was ninth-place in the 1,500 with a 5:03.91 and she was 22nd in the 800 with a 2:26.71.
    Bailey Tilley was 11th in the 13-year-old discus with a toss of 84-foot-6.
    Faith Lloyd, also in the 13-year-old division, was 26th in the 3,000 with a 12:04.1 and 39th in the 1,500 with a 5:34.38.
    Cooper Worsham finished 35th in the 14-year-old shot put with a toss of 31-foot-6.5 and 41st in the discuss with a throw of 81-foot-1.
    Ben Hicks was 30th in the 14-year-old 3,000 with a 10:53.82 and he joined Austin Watkins, Michael Lloyd and Kenny Sutherlin in the 4x800 relay for an 18th place finish on a time of 10:17.86.
    Josh Jones ran in three 15/16-year-old finals. Jones was 13th in the 3,000 with a 9:53.89, 23rd in the 1,500 with a 4:23.35 and 49th in the 800 on a time of 2:08.51.
    Robbie Wilson reached the 15/16-year-old finals in the discus and finished 19th with a toss of 122-foot-10.
    Peyton Garrett competed in the 13-year-old long jump, but didn’t reach the finals. Kenny Sutherlin tossed the discus in the 13-year-old division but didn’t reach the finals.
