Jury term begins Monday in Carter County District Court with a number felony cases listed on the criminal trial docket. In fact, it appears criminal cases will kickoff jury term in the courtrooms of both District Judge Dennis Morris and Associate District Judge Lee Card. Morris will preside over the trial of Manuel Tuesca, charged with first-degree robbery. Card will preside over the drug distribution trial of Cortez Houston.
Information concerning which defendants are expected to enter pleas in their cases was not available. However, District Attorney Craig Ladd confirmed he anticipated James Conn Nipp, who is charged with possession of drugs and endangering others while attempting to elude police, will enter pleas.
Trial or pleas are also scheduled in the case against Christopher and Angela Randolph, charged with child neglect in connection with the heat-related death of their infant in August 2013, as well as Kevontre Jawuana Jones, charged with robbery by force or fear and two counts unauthorized use of credit card in connection with the case involving the multiple stabbing of a popular karaoke singer/convenience store clerk.
