  • Mental health services extending hours to help more in need

  • Mental Health Services of Southern Oklahoma officials announce all community mental health clinics now offer extended clinic hours for patient convenience.
    Deana Tharp, MHSSO deputy executive director explained the extended hours saying the effort was intended to, “meet the needs of those who are in need of behavioral health services,” including those who work or have other obligations that prevent them from seeking appointments during regular hours.
    MHSSO has six clinics in Carter, Johnston, Bryan, Garvin, Pontotoc and Seminole counties, including facilities in Ardmore and Tishomingo. Hours for all clinics are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    All of clinics offer a full range of mental health services including:
    •  Symptom management
    •  In-house pharmacy
    •  Trauma support
    •  Substance abuse counseling
    •  Systems of Care for children and families
    •  Drug court
    •  Psychiatric consultation
    •  Mental health education
    •  Support groups
    •  24-hour crisis services.

    In addition, MHSSO operates a crisis stabilization unit located on the south campus f Mercy Hospital Ardmore . The unit provides 16 beds for patients who are assessed with a mental health emergency. One-to-one counseling, family and group counseling formats are used to expedite positive results for clients and families.     
    Comprehensive mental health services are provided through contracts with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, including the Department of Human Services, Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance.  Private donors also contribute to the non-profit community service organization.
    “We are committed to providing the professional help for patients to enjoy healthier lives,” Tharp said.
