  • City accepting resumes for HR director

  • The city of Ardmore has begun the process of filling the position of human resources director, and is accepting resumes through Sept. 1. Assistant City Manager Kevin Boatright has taken over those duties on an interim basis, but the time has come for the city to find a permanent replacement for Jaime Watts, who resigned in February.
    “I have learned a lot, but I think it is important for the city to have an HR professional,” Boatright said.
    The search opened the last week of July, and, to date, the city has received three resumes. Boatright said the job has been posted locally, with the Oklahoma Municipal League and the Society for Human Resource Management.
    “We are trying to cast a wider net to find the best applicant for this position,” Boatright said. “We would like to have someone chosen by Oct. 1.”
    Boatright said, depending on how good the application pool is, the city may do telephone interviews and then select three to four finalists to come in for personal interviews.
    The city’s HR director works with approximately 260 full-time employees. A bachelor’s degree in HR, public or business administration or the equivalent is required, and a masters degree is preferred. The city is asking for six years of experience, including three years of supervisory experience, with certification being a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with public sector and union experience. The salary for the job is $75,000 to $85,000, depending on experience.
    Boatright said the city is still looking for additions to its police force. The department is looking for five additional officers, and has bought television commercial time based on the Sherman, Texas police department’s success.
    “We are trying to find more and better qualified candidates,” he said.
    Boatright said the city is looking for entry-level operators in several other departments as well.
