The Opening Night of the 2014 Thoroughbred Season at Remington Park is set with nine races to begin the 67-date schedule.Jockey Cliff Berry has been named on six mounts and needs just one more win to reach 2,000 Thoroughbred triumphs at Remington Park.
Berry picked up a pair of wins on the final day of racing here in 2013, placing him at 1,999 overall and in a holding pattern of nearly eight months before he could next attempt the 2,000-mark. The Jones, Okla. resident will become the first jockey to reach the milestone at Remington Park.
The six mounts for Berry will take place in races three thru five and then in races seven thru nine. The horses on Opening Night for Berry will be saddled by five different trainers. Following is the race schedule for Berry on Friday with his mount and corresponding trainer:

Berry has been a mainstay at Remington Park since the track’s opening in 1988. He has won 15 seasonal titles overall with his first taking place in the fall of 1996.
Throughout his career, Berry has won 4,242 Thoroughbred races from nearly 27,000 mounts with overall earnings of more than $61.4 million.
The Opening Night program features large fields throughout the nine races. A total of 98 horses have been entered for an average field size of 10.9 per race. Nearly half of the races (four) on Friday feature 12-horse fields, one race has 11 horses while three others have 10. Just one race, the $40,000 allowance feature at five furlongs over the turf in race eight, has less than 10 runners as nine have entered.
Remington Park’s Opening Weekend is this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15 & 16. The regular weekly slate of Wednesday thru Saturday racing will begin Aug. 20-23. The normal first post is set at 7pm (central).
