Cullen Jackson Hayes, “Jack” to close friends, 73, of Highland Village, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Loco Cemetery in Loco. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.

Cullen was born and raised in Marthaville, La., on Feb. 14, 1941. Cullen was married to Linda (Webb) Hayes on Sept. 1, 1962, at Durant; they were married for 51 years.

Cullen retired from the boating industry in 1989. In his spare time, Cullen enjoyed bowling, collecting coins and Coca Cola merchandise, and raising two sons. He even found time to coach little league and softball teams. Cullen was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Braine from 1958-1962.

Cullen is survived by his wife Linda and their two sons, Bobby Hayes and his wife Shannon of Irving, Texas and Steve Hayes and his wife Heather of Lewisville, Texas. Cullen has two grandchildren, Nicholas and Brianna Hayes. Cullen is survived by one brother, Vernon Hayes of Allen, Texas; and a sister, Linda Howe of Sheridan, Calif.

Cullen was preceded in death by his parents Lois Hayes and Myrtle (Ingram) Hayes; and a brother, Wesley Hayes.

Cullen will always be remembered as a loving husband who cherished and cared deeply for his wife. A good father who worked hard to provide for his family and set an example to his sons of what it means to be a husband and a father. And a grandfather who adored his grandchildren and spent every moment he could with them whether it was changing diapers, giving them rides on the lawn mower or sharing a pepperoni pizza with them.

We will miss you Cullen and look forward to the day that we are reunited with you.

The entire family would like to give a “Thank You” to Ardent Hospice. They came in and provided care and watchful eye over Cullen during his last few days and proved to us that angels still walk on this earth. We would ask that in lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Cullen’s memory to St. Jude Hospital:

Family visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service at Alexander Funeral Home in Ringling.
