The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce is planning several activities for its members as the new legislative session is scheduled to convene on Feb. 1.
The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its first “Ardmore Day at the Capitol” for Feb. 16. “Ardmore Day at the Capitol” is an opportunity for the City of Ardmore, Chamber members and citizens to promote our great community to all of the elected representatives of our state. The Ardmore Chamber has chartered a bus and will provide transportation for Chamber members to the steps of the Capitol. Members will “blitz” the state house, meeting with members of every House and Senate committee that impact the lives of our citizens and the businesses we operate. This is a valuable opportunity for participants, as we have reserved space in the Capitol Rotunda and will set up signs and banners that promote Ardmore and area businesses. “Chamber members are encouraged to schedule meetings in advance with legislators to discuss their individual concerns and use the face-to-face opportunity to promote Ardmore and highlight those issues that challenge this community,” said Government Affairs Chairman for the Ardmore Chamber Scott Chapman. “The 4-year university branch campus, tort reform, education funding, promotion of tourism and continuation of business incentives are just a few of the topics that are of interest to our community.”
The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, along with Presenting Sponsors: Cable ONE and The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Gold Sponsors: Amethyst Research and Valero – Ardmore Refinery, and Silver Sponsors: At & T, Heartland LLC and Oklahoma Natural Gas, have scheduled the 2010 Legislative Luncheon series. The dates for the luncheons are: Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26, April 9, April 23 and May 7.
Chamber members and attendees will have the opportunity to hear from elected officials including State Sen. Johnnie Crutchfield and State Representatives Samson Buck and Pat Ownbey regarding issues of interest at the State Capitol. Some of the issues likely to be discussed are the state budget, proposed tax and lawsuit reform, education reform, economic development and a host of other crucial issues. A box lunch is available for $10 by making reservations with the Chamber.
“These sessions are very informative and offer a great way for chamber members to find out directly from our legislators regarding the very important business that takes place at the Capitol. I would encourage members to attend,” Chapman said.
Anyone interested in participating in the “Ardmore Day at the Capitol” is encouraged to RSVP to the Chamber of Commerce at (580) 223-7765 or e-mail mflanagan@ardmore.org.
